Workout Woes

Now that things are slightly settled in my life I've decided to start working out again. I had a plan that I made for home which was very effective and really kicking my bum. It took some effort to fit it into my day properly, but it was going really well. Then, a friend of mine offered to take me to the gym with her - she has a membership that allows her to take a guest on each visit (I'm not buying a gym membership until our house and truck are sold). The only catch to this is that she goes at 5 a.m. (something I did regularly before I had kids).
So, I've been going with her the last couple of days. Getting up at 4:45 a.m. Ugh. Getting a pretty decent workout, but never feeling it the next day like I do with my at-home workouts, and being a complete ZOMBIE for the course of the entire day, getting absolutely nothing done and making dumb food choices (because I'm so spacey) until I'm able to squeeze a nap in.
So, here's my dillema: Do I stick it out and be a big girl and hope that my body adjusts to this (by the way, 'going to bed earlier' is not an option.. no matter when I go to bed, no matter how tired, I don't fall asleep and am fitful all night - that's an entirely different issue..), or should I be a party pooper and start working out at home again so I can assure that I'm doing everything that I should be doing and doing it with a sound mind.
I'm sending this one out to the blogosphere for help. Any advice would be appreciated. :)

I'm going to be the evil one to suggest that since you aren't getting enough sleep, in the long run, the early morning work outs probably won't be helpful. When you aren't getting enough sleep, you tend to retain fat. So I'm going to suggest getting enough sleep and working exercise into your daily routine. Now if I can just take my own advice...

It sounds to me like you've already answered your own question. The 5am thing is wearing you down too much. And doing it at home will fit around the rest of your schedule much better. Stay home and stop feeling like a zombie.
Love ya,
Mom

Nice to get some motherly advice on here. :) I thought it out over the weekend and decided to call 5 a.m. quits. Just too much. Plus going to bed early is no fun for me - I'm a night person and that's when I have my down time.
I'm back to my original plan.
Thanks Mom and Sarah. :)

I'm glad you decided to quit the insanity! 5 in the morning is just too early! Some people can do it but I know I never could. If the thing you are doing at home is getting you a better work out anyway then why on earth would you want to put yourself through the torture of getting up so early? Good choice, Julie. I wish you lived closer and you could come work out with me! (at 9 in the morning--kids welcome!)

I think I was struggling with my stubbornness.. not wanting to give up on something new because it was uncomfortable. But, on the other hand, I realize that I was being totally illogical. I was effective at home, and went because someone asked me to, that was it..
SO glad I changed my mind. :)
