Something Dumb I Said This Morning

I just thought this was funny, so I had to share.
I've been setting my alarm for 6:30 all week and Steve finally asked me why this morning. My response: "So I can beat the kids up," meaning "so I can get up and ready before the kids." It sounded so bad and as soon as I realized what I said I started cracking up along with "of course I would never beat the kids!" comments.. :)

Yes, We are Completely Insane.. But, on the Plus Side, I ROCK! :)

So, we're moving, again.. I KNOW - WE'RE NUTS! We just did this a month ago, but it turns out the apartment we moved into is really a party apartment complex and not a good place to live if you have small children and actually want them to sleep. We've been surrounded by neighbors who LOVE their music and either love it too much, or are losing their hearing because they play it LOUD. Shaking appliances loud. Waking deeply sleeping children loud. On one occassion, I'm pretty convinced it was at the top volume level - I've never heard anything like it. So we talked to our landlord and he offered to move us into a house (with 3 bedrooms - yea!). Funny story about this house is that we're friends with the old tenants and that it's in Steve's parents' ward and about a billion people approached us on our last visit to that ward telling us we should live there. So, we will be - tomorrow.
The amazing part about all of this is that I got everything packed up in less than 24 hours. AWESOME, huh? :) I'm really proud of myself and really relieved that it's all done. I guess it's a lot easier to pack when you unpacked only a month ago and everything's still super organized. I also created a new system with all of the kids' toys - they're in storage boxes with the lids off so all we have to do with their stuff is pop the lids on those babies and we're done. Amazing how much time that saved me.
So, I just had to share this rather embarrassing/exciting information with all of you. I'll post pictures of our new home when we're settled. :)

Truck for Sale!

With the loss of my income, we've decided to sell our truck, just to be certain that we're living within our means. It's in awesome condition and has been really great to tread through blizzards. But, the snow's melting and just about everything I need to get to in Logan is in walking distance, it's a real non-necessity right now. We have the car paid off, which is why we're keeping it instead.
Anyway, if you're interested or know anyone who is, let us know! :)

More Joseph Play

He really cracks me up a lot of the time! This morning he got the octopus and was playing with it and then told me that it was hungry. I said, "OK, give it some breakfast," so went into the kitchen with the octopus.

When I went in to see what he was up to I found that he put the octopus in his chair, got some cereal out, put it in a cup, and placed it in front of the octopus. :) What a sweet boy.

Maybe Putting Our Movies on this Shelf Wasn't Such a Great Idea

The Birth of a Blog

We're moved and settled in Logan now. It's wonderful to be home with this kids and the change has brought me into this new crusade to be as frugal as humanly possible. It's actually pretty fun. :)
I've started a blog to sort of document what I'm doing and what I'm discovering. It can be found here: Adventures in the Life of a Frugal Mommy.

Sibling Love

Joseph LOVES Drew - she is seriously one of his favorite people and is by her side about 80% of the time when she's with us. Whenever they're quiet (which is rare), you can count on finding them snuggling up in a chair together. He loves her so much and she's such a good big sister to him and Kathrynn. :)

Thanks Katie!!

My friend Katie, who is the queen of all scrapbookers, rose to action when she saw my last post and created my adorable new header! Isn't she awesome?! :)

Thanks so much, Katie!

So Sweet :)

This is Kathrynn's big thing - anytime she finds anything soft on the floor, she has to lay on it - it's really cute. Joseph thought so, too and decided to lay down with her. It was really sweet. :)

This Blog is Officially Updated

Phew! It took me forever to get to it, but I finally have all of the pictures and stories that I wanted to add uploaded in the blog. Updates go as far back as November - the oldest is "Joseph the Dinosaur" - so if you have some free time, have fun perusing the blog. :) I really didn't want to go without adding Joseph's birthday and Christmas and there were lots of other milestones/funny stories that needed to be added.
So, enjoy! :)

By the way, that was NOT an announcement!

I know how some of you are.. the word "pregnancy" pops out of my mouth and you instantly think I'm expecting. Nope, not so. :) I can just thoroughly empathize with that article as I am still suffering memory loss, 10 1/2 months postpartum..

Don't expect any such announcement for several years. I'll at least have Kathrynn potty trained before there's another little Paulson running around. :)

Here You Have It -- Pregnancy Really DOES Cause Memory Loss

.. from CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/conditions/02/05/pregnancy.memory/index.html)
Pregnancy does cause memory loss, study says

(CNN) -- Science has now confirmed what expectant moms already know: Carrying a baby makes them more forgetful.

Researchers suspect that pregnant women's forgetfulness stems from hormone shifts and lifestyle changes.

A recent study by two Australian researchers has found that pregnant women do experience a slight loss of memory -- and in many cases, the forgetfulness continues after birth.

The memory loss is subtle, and usually involves unfamiliar or demanding tasks, Dr. Julie Henry, one of the authors of the study, told CNN on Tuesday.

"What we found is that memory tasks which are more challenging or more novel, or those that would require multitasking -- these types of tasks are likely to be disrupted," said Henry, a senior lecturer in Sydney's University of New South Wales.
For example, a pregnant woman is more likely to forget a new telephone number, but she is able to recall a number she has dialed many times before, Henry said.
Henry and her colleague, Dr. Peter Rendell of Melbourne's Australian Catholic University, analyzed 14 studies from around the world that tested the memory performances of more than 1,000 women -- expectant women, mothers and non-pregnant females.

The study, published in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology, found that the memory loss can extend up to a year after birth.

The researchers could not establish whether the forgetfulness lasts longer because none of the research they analyzed went beyond the one-year observational period.
Henry and Rendell said that more research is needed to determine what causes the loss at such a critical period of a woman's life. It may result from hormonal changes or from a lifestyle shift, Henry said.

"You're probably more preoccupied with the upcoming birth and (how) your whole life is going to be changing," she said. "You're going to have more difficult sleeping. And other studies have shown that sleep deficiency definitely disrupts cognitive performance. There's no reason to think it won't do so during pregnancy."
So, has Henry experienced the syndrome firsthand?

"I haven't yet," she said, laughing. "It hasn't put me off."

Kathrynn Takes a Stand

I know I already did a post on Kathrynn standing up, but it's just so cute, so I have to do another.
I think my favorite thing that she does when she stands is that she always looks down at her legs like she's thinking "Wow! Look what I'm doing!" She's adorable. :)

Joseph Did This

Kathrynn got this little doll for Christmas and Joseph saw it in her room and told me "She needs to sleep." I said OK and he left with the doll. I later went into his room and this is what I found. (The doggie and kittie are the animals he sleeps with every night.)

Kathrynn has Four Teeth Now!

Those upper two were a BEAST to get in.. accompanied by fever and vomiting - the works. I only know it was her teeth because her doctor tested her for everything else and it was inconclusive and as soon as the teeth broke through, everything stopped and she was back to her normal happy self.
I'm dreading molars if that's what her two top teeth do. :-S
(if you look closely, you can see that that's her leg up near her face.. she likes to stretch like that)

The Refugees

I decided that I needed to deep clean our kitchen in preparation for our big move - and never are my kids so interested in me than when I'm trying to be dedicated in doing something. After consistently trying to redirect their attention and physically moving them out of my way, I created a barrier with a folded up box. Thought it would work and keep them from wanting to come in the kitchen. Not so. The barrier created even MORE appeal to getting in there and in the middle of my work.

OK, so it was cute and I ended up taking lots of pictures - and Joseph thought he was being HILARIOUS.

"Uh, Mommy, what's with the wall blocking me?"

"Ha! I found a hole!"

"Al...most...there!"

"Yeah, I'm pretty cute, huh? Why don't you just let me in?"

"Finally made it!"

"Hey, good idea, Kathrynn!"

The Sippy Cup

I decided to see if Kathrynn would be willing to drink from a sippy cup (because she LOVES drinking from my cup any time she can), and Joseph took it upon himself to teach her for me - he is, after all, an expert in this area... and very persistant.
Such a good big brother. :)

I love it when this happens!
